Rather than contract with multiple trade-specific contractors, many homeowners prefer to hire Mayflower Construction to handle all aspects of the project from start to finish. Common steps of the process include:
On every project, we proudly use ZipWall dust barrier system. Plastic curtains provide an effective method of keeping the negative impact of the construction to an absolute minimum. At the end of the work day, prior to leaving the job site, we make sure that it is free of debris, tools, and materials. Most projects require a dumpster placed on the driveway. A large project may require other specialized equipment like portable toilets, heavy machinery, etc.
2. Roughing out utilities
While the studs in the walls are exposed and easily accessible, water feed lines, drains, electric outlets and switches, and heating and air conditioning system ductwork are installed or updated. At this point, any one-piece, pre-manufactured bathtubs, shower stalls, or shower pans are installed for bathrooms.
3. Structural/Carpentry work
Next, a carpenter frames the area(s) to accommodate the new layout. Additionally, any repairs/changes to the floor joists are performed and, if necessary, the floor is built up.
4. Hardiebacker/Schluter KERDI board
Moisture-resistant backer board or KERDI board is installed on the dry walls of the bathroom. We will also install 100% ¼” backer board or DITRA mat to waterproof soon-to-be-tiled floors. Drywall is also installed and prepped for painting during this phase of the project. Painting is complete.
5. Surfaces - tile, hardwood, laminate, vinyl
We proudly use and distribute MSI porcelain tiles. Tile is used to cover the kitchen or bathroom floor, bathtub walls, shower-stall walls, shower base or a custom kitchen backsplash. Hardwood, vinyl or laminate flooring may also be used, as an alternative to the tile floors.
6. Cabinets, vanities and fixtures
Here we install all of the cabinets, toilets, sinks, faucets, etc. Carpenters, plumbers, and electricians are wrapping up the project.
7. Glass hardware/Countertop
At this point any glass shower panel or door, custom or standard mirrors, towel bars, and other hardware are installed. Please keep in mind that custom products require additional time for fabrication, usually up to 10 business days.
The final stage of the project where we go over the completed work and make sure the customer is completely happy with the project. The punch list allows us to make sure we do not miss/forget anything.
